Membership Information: Our membership base is largely local. We seek active participation by all members, particularly new ones. We want members willing to make an ongoing commitment to event planning and coordination, administration, and management of the club. All new members must serve a term of two years on the Social Committee and chair an event during that time. Ideal members demonstrate enthusiasm and involvement towards the club's activities as well as committing themselves, if asked, to positions on the Board of Governors and Flag Officer roles. Such responsibilities are administered in the Central Connecticut area via monthly mid-week meetings, on a year-round basis. Should you have interest in our club, you will need a primary and two secondary sponsors (existing members) to propose your membership and assist you in completing the application process. Once you have selected your sponsors, you will need to attend a minimum of three “on the water events”, by boat, with your proposer, or a designated BYC member host, within two consecutive years. This will make you eligible for formal membership, which is voted on annually by the Board of Governors. The preferred method of commencing the membership process is through an existing member. However, if you do not know any current Baldwin Yacht Club members, it may be possible to facilitate the establishment of an initial dialogue with a member based on similar attributes, such as your boat type, marina, hometown, age of children, or boating interests.
We hope this answers your initial questions regarding Baldwin Yacht Club and the membership process.
